Boston video production company

Click Play Films is a Boston video production company producing corporate, healthcare, and brand video to a broadcast standard. Local crews, an office on Beacon Street, and a producer on every project.

The studio

Built for how Boston actually buys video

Broadcast craft. Regulated-industry experience. One accountable team.

Boston’s economy is unusually concentrated in the industries where video has an approval process attached. Hospitals and health systems, biotech and pharma, universities, financial services, and enterprise software. In every one of those, the hard part is rarely the filming. It is producing something that clears legal, compliance, or medical review without arriving so cautious that nobody watches it.

That is the work we do most. We have produced inside regulated review for pharmaceutical clients, handled HIPAA-aware sets in clinical environments, and built the review rounds into schedules rather than discovering them at the first cut. It is a slower kind of production and a different skill from a fast brand shoot, and it is what most of this market needs.

Shooting in Boston

What the city actually requires

Boston is a compact, old, and heavily institutional city. The logistics that catch out-of-town crews here are different from anywhere else we work.

01

Permits and Street Closures

City filming runs through the Boston Film Bureau, with additional requirements where parking or street control is needed. Narrow downtown streets mean parking a truck is often the hardest part of the permit.

02

Institutional Access Takes Time

Hospitals, universities, and labs all have their own approval processes on top of the city’s. Filming at a teaching hospital can need clearance from communications, legal, and the department itself. We start those conversations early because they are the long pole.

03

Winter Is a Real Constraint

Exterior work from December through March needs a genuine contingency, and a nor’easter can take a day out entirely. We scout covered alternatives and hold interior work in reserve.

04

Local Crew, No Travel

Boston crews booked out of our Beacon Street office. Travel, per diem, and freight stay off the budget, which on a multi-day shoot is the largest saving available.

05

Regulated Review Built In

Where the work sits inside compliance, MLR, or legal approval, we schedule the review rounds rather than treating them as a final hurdle. That is the difference between hitting a date and reshooting.

06

Multi-Market Campaigns

Offices in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, and Houston, with coverage in 48 markets. A campaign shooting in several cities is one team rather than several vendors.

Pricing

What video production costs in Boston

Most production companies will not put numbers on a page. Here are ours.

Cost is driven by crew size, shoot days, locations, and how much post the project needs. Work inside a regulated review process takes longer in schedule rather than costing more in production, and we say so at the quoting stage.

$0$5k$10k$15k$20k$25k+
Single video$3,000 – $10,000
Brand film or multi-location$5,000 – $20,000
Campaign or series$10,000 and up

Regulated review moves the calendar, not the chart. MLR and compliance add weeks to the schedule rather than dollars to the shoot.

01

$3,000 to $10,000

Single video. One location, one shoot day, a compact local crew. Executive messages, patient or customer stories, single explainers. Includes production, edit, color, sound, captions, and versioning.

02

$5,000 to $20,000

Brand film or multi-location project. Several locations or shoot days, larger crew, motion graphics, licensed music, and more involved review cycles.

03

$10,000 and up

Campaign or series. Multiple deliverables produced together, which lowers cost per video substantially. Health system campaigns and pharma work inside full MLR sit here.

Why Click Play

A production partner, not just a camera crew

Most Boston video shops have never navigated a medical-legal review or worked a HIPAA-aware set. We have. In a market built on hospitals, biotech, universities, and financial services, that experience is usually what separates a project that ships from one that stalls in approval.

FAQ

Boston video production questions

How much does video production cost in Boston?

A single video typically runs $3,000 to $10,000. A brand film or multi-location project runs $5,000 to $20,000. Campaigns and series start around $10,000 and drop in cost per video as volume rises. Because we crew locally, Boston projects avoid the travel and per diem that out-of-town companies add.

Where in Boston are you based?

Our Boston office is at 1 Beacon Street, at the edge of Beacon Hill and central to the Financial District, Government Center, and most downtown locations. You can reach the Boston office directly on 617-500-9832.

Can you film in hospitals and clinical environments?

Yes, and it is a substantial part of what we do here. That means HIPAA-aware sets, patient authorizations handled before the shoot, sightline planning so charts and incidental patients stay out of frame, and crews briefed on what cannot be captured. We work around care rather than through it.

Do you work inside regulated review?

Yes. For pharma and medical device work we build MLR into the schedule from the start, with scripts reviewed before the shoot rather than after. For universities and financial services the equivalent is legal and compliance sign-off. Either way we ask who has to approve it at the first call, not at the first cut.

Do we need a permit to film in Boston?

For most public locations, yes, through the Boston Film Bureau. Requirements vary with location, crew size, and whether you need parking or street control, and downtown parking is often the harder part of the application. We handle it and build the lead time into the schedule. Institutional locations usually need their own internal approval as well.

Can you shoot outdoors in winter?

Yes, with a real plan. December through March needs shorter exterior setups, warming arrangements, and gear rated for the conditions. We always scout a covered alternative and hold interior work in reserve, because a nor’easter can remove a shoot day entirely.

How long does a project take?

Two to four weeks from kickoff to final delivery for a standard project. Two to eight weeks for larger films and campaigns. Add time where regulated review applies; pharma work with full MLR should assume additional weeks depending on your process. We map review windows into the schedule at kickoff.

Can you handle multi-city campaigns?

Yes. With offices in Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, and Houston, a campaign shooting in several cities is one production team with consistent direction rather than several local vendors delivering films that do not match.

What is included in the price?

Pre-production planning, scripting support, consent and release management where needed, crew and equipment, direction, all quoted shoot days, editing, color grading, sound mix, licensed music, captions, and delivery in every format you need. Permits, paid talent, and specialist equipment are quoted separately and itemized up front.

Who owns the footage?

You do. You receive the finished deliverables and, on request, the camera originals, subject to the consent terms any participant agreed to. We archive projects so future work can reuse approved material rather than reshooting.
