Product Video

Product video production company

Click Play Films produces product video for ecommerce, launches, and retail. Broadcast-standard craft, and the batch economics to shoot a whole catalogue in a day rather than one item at a time.

The studio

Product video is a lighting problem before it is a story problem

Broadcast craft. Real product handling. One accountable team.

Most product video fails for a mundane reason: the product does not look like itself. Color is off, texture is flattened, the glass reads grey, the fabric loses its weave. No amount of clever editing recovers that, and a customer who cannot see the thing properly does not buy it.

Getting an object to read correctly on camera is a specific craft, closer to still-life photography than to filming people. Controlled light, the right lens for the scale, motion that reveals rather than decorates, and a color pipeline that keeps your product the color it actually is. Our producers came up making national commercials where a client’s product had to look right on a television screen in a stranger’s living room, and that is the standard we bring to a product page.

What we produce

Product video production services

01

Ecommerce Product Video

The video that sits on the product page and does the job a photo cannot: scale, motion, material, and how the thing actually behaves in a hand.

02

Launch Films

The hero piece for a new product, cut for the announcement and every channel carrying it.

03

Demo and How-It-Works

Showing function rather than describing it. The most persuasive format for anything with a mechanism, a setup, or a non-obvious benefit.

04

Lifestyle and In-Use

The product in context, with real people, shot to show fit and use rather than to look like a stock library.

05

Catalogue Shoots

Many products, one production. The cheapest way by a wide margin to get video across an entire range.

06

Retail and Trade

Loop content for in-store screens, trade shows, and channel partners, cut to the specs each environment needs.

The case for video

People look for product video before they buy

Product video sits at the point of decision. Someone is already on the page, already interested, and wants one question answered before they commit. That makes it the most measurable video most companies own.

A note on the numbers you will see elsewhere. Search for product video statistics and you will find claims of 80% conversion lift repeated across dozens of agency sites. That figure traces back to research published before 2020, and more recent testing shows the range runs from slightly negative for the wrong video on the wrong page to substantially positive for the right one. We would rather tell you that than quote a number your team can dismantle in an afternoon.

What is well established is simpler and more useful: people go looking for video before buying, and it changes what they understand about the product. Whether it lifts your conversion depends entirely on whether the video answers the objection that was actually stopping the sale.

How it works

Shoot the range, not the item

The single biggest decision on a product project is made before anyone books a camera: whether you are producing one video or building a system. Almost every client who starts with one comes back for the rest, and doing it in that order costs several times more.

01

Scope the Whole Range

We ask what else is in the catalogue, not just what is urgent. A setup built for one product usually shoots five with minor adjustments, and the marginal cost of the fourth is a fraction of the first.

02

Get the Product Early

Physical samples before the shoot day, not on it. How something reflects, how it moves, whether it fingerprints, whether it sits flat: all of that determines the setup and none of it can be judged from a photograph.

03

Build the Light

Most of the day goes here, and it should. Controlled light for texture and edge, the right lens for the scale, and a color reference so what comes back matches what you sell.

04

Answer One Question

The strongest product videos resolve a single doubt: how big, how it works, what it is made of. Deciding which one before the shoot is worth more than any amount of polish afterwards.

05

Color and Finish

Graded against the physical product where possible. A product video that is a shade off is worse than no video, because it generates returns.

06

Deliver to Spec

Marketplaces and platforms each have their own requirements for length, ratio, and file. We deliver to those specs rather than handing you a master and leaving you to work it out.

Pricing

What product video production costs

Most production companies will not put numbers on a page. Here are ours.

Cost is driven by how many products, how many setups, whether talent appears, and how much post each piece needs. The number that matters most is products per shoot day.

$0$5k$10k$15k$20k$25k+
Single product or small set$3,000 – $10,000
Range or launch$5,000 – $20,000
Catalogue program$10,000 and up

Eight products shot separately is eight setups and eight days. The same eight shot together is usually one or two.

01

$3,000 to $10,000

Single product or small set. One shoot day, studio or location, a compact crew. Hero video plus loops, verticals, and detail cuts. Includes production, edit, color, sound, and delivery to platform specs.

02

$5,000 to $20,000

Range or launch. Multiple products or setups, lifestyle footage with talent, motion graphics, and a full set of deliverables across ecommerce, paid, and retail.

03

$10,000 and up

Catalogue program. Video across an entire range produced together. By a wide margin the lowest cost per product, and the only approach that keeps a catalogue visually consistent.

A worked example: eight products shot separately is eight setups, eight days, and eight sets of travel. The same eight shot together is typically one or two days and one setup adjusted throughout. If you have a range, bring the whole list to the first call.

Why Click Play

A production partner, not just a camera crew

Most shops photograph a product. We light it. That difference is the whole job: our producers came up making national commercials where a brand’s product had to read correctly at broadcast scale, and that discipline is what makes a product video sell rather than simply exist.

FAQ

Product video production questions

How much does product video production cost?

A single product or small set typically runs $3,000 to $10,000. A range or launch runs $5,000 to $20,000. A full catalogue program starts around $10,000 and drops sharply in cost per product. The driver is products per shoot day, not video length.

Does product video actually increase sales?

Usually, but we are going to be more careful with this answer than most companies are. You will see 80% conversion lift quoted everywhere; that number comes from pre-2020 research and modern testing shows results ranging from slightly negative to substantially positive depending on video type and placement. What is solidly established is that 96% of people have watched an explainer video to understand a product, and 93% of marketers say video improved comprehension of what they sell. Whether it lifts your numbers depends on whether it answers the objection that was actually blocking the purchase.

How many products can you shoot in a day?

Between five and twenty depending on how much the setup has to change between them. Products that share a material and a scale go quickly; a range that jumps from glassware to textiles to electronics needs relighting each time. We work that out from samples before quoting rather than guessing on the day.

Do you need the physical product beforehand?

Ideally yes, and it makes a real difference. How something reflects, whether it fingerprints, how it sits, how it moves: these decide the setup and cannot be judged from photographs. Sending samples a week ahead is the cheapest quality improvement available on a product shoot.

Will the color match our actual product?

That is the point of grading against a physical reference, and we do it wherever the product is with us. Color that is a shade off looks like a small problem and behaves like an expensive one, because customers order expecting what they saw and send it back.

How long should a product video be?

Fifteen to thirty seconds for a product page, where the viewer already intends to buy and wants confirmation. Sixty to ninety for a launch or a demo, where you are still making the case. Product video under a minute averages around 50% engagement, the highest band of any length, so short and specific outperforms long and comprehensive here.

Can you deliver to marketplace specifications?

Yes. Marketplaces and platforms each have their own rules on length, aspect ratio, file format, and what may appear on screen. We deliver to those specs directly rather than handing over a master and leaving your team to reformat it.

Studio or location?

Studio for controlled hero and ecommerce work, where the light needs to be exact. Location for lifestyle and in-use footage, where context is the point. Most ranges want both, and we usually schedule them as separate days rather than compromising each.

What is included in the price?

Pre-production planning, crew and equipment, studio or location, direction, all quoted shoot days, editing, color grading, sound, motion graphics, and delivery in every format your channels need. Paid talent, travel, prop hire, and specialist rigs are quoted separately and itemized up front.

Where can you shoot?

We have offices in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, and Houston, and have covered productions in 48 markets. For product work the practical question is usually whether the products travel to us or we travel to them, and we will tell you honestly which is cheaper.

Who owns the footage?

You do. You receive the finished deliverables and, on request, the camera originals. We archive projects, which matters on product work because a new size, colorway, or platform requirement can often be cut from existing footage rather than reshot.
