Sizzle reel production
Click Play Films produces sizzle reels that sell a format, a talent or a brand in under five minutes, cut to a broadcast standard with a producer accountable on every project.
A sizzle reel is a sales document, not a highlight tape
Broadcast craft. One clear promise. Under five minutes.
Most sizzle reels fail because they try to show everything. The ones that work make a single argument and prove it fast: this is the format, this is who carries it, this is why an audience stays. Whether it is going to a network, a streamer, a brand or an investor, the person watching decides in the first thirty seconds whether to keep watching, and everything after that is either earning attention or spending it. Post production services are covered on their own page.
The problem is almost never the footage. It is structure. We build sizzles around a stated promise, a demonstration of that promise, and a reason to believe it, then cut ruthlessly against that spine. Where coverage does not exist yet, we shoot the minimum needed to prove the idea rather than producing a pilot nobody has commissioned.
Sizzles and presentations we have cut
Competition, personality-led travel, dating format and hospitality brand.
Sizzle reel and pilot presentation services
Format Sizzle
The pitch reel for an unscripted format: cast, stakes, tone and look, built to be watched by a commissioner who has already seen ten today.
Pilot Presentation
A longer cut for buyers who are already interested, showing how episodes actually work rather than just how they feel.
Brand Sizzle
A short, high-energy cut of what a company or campaign is, for sales decks, trade shows and investor rooms.
Talent and Personality Reel
A reel built around one person, proving they can hold a screen and carry a show.
Event and Recap Sizzle
A fast turnaround cut of a conference, launch or festival, usually needed while the event is still news.
Agency and Capabilities Reel
A studio or agency reel that shows range without turning into a showreel nobody finishes.
What actually decides whether it lands
Length Is a Decision, Not a Default
Two to three minutes for a cold pitch, up to five when the buyer is already warm. Past that you are no longer selling, you are screening.
Structure Beats Footage
A clear promise, a demonstration, a reason to believe. Good footage in the wrong order sells nothing; ordinary footage in the right order sells well.
Music and Rights
Sizzles get forwarded, posted and screened, so the music has to be licensed for that from the start. A temp track you cannot clear is a reel you cannot use.
Shoot Only What You Must
Where coverage is missing we shoot the minimum needed to prove the idea, rather than producing a pilot before anyone has committed to one.
Versions Are Normal
A pitch cut, a shorter social cut and sometimes a buyer-specific version. Planning for versions up front is far cheaper than recutting later.
Captions and Delivery
Most sizzles are first watched on a laptop with the sound off or on a phone. Captions and a clean, correctly sized delivery file are part of the job.
What a sizzle reel costs
Most production companies will not put numbers on a page. Here are ours.
A sizzle built from footage you already own is an edit job and prices accordingly. Once we are shooting new material to fill gaps, cost moves with shoot days and crew rather than with running time.
$3,000 to $10,000
Cut from existing footage. You have the material and need it structured and finished. Story pass, edit, color, sound mix, licensed music, captions and versioning.
$5,000 to $20,000
Sizzle with a shoot. One or more shoot days to capture what is missing: cast on camera, a location, a demonstration of the format. Includes the full post above.
$10,000 and up
Pilot presentation or package. A longer buyer cut, or a sizzle produced alongside a format bible and supporting assets to take to market together.
A production partner, not just an editor
We have made sizzles that went to networks and sizzles that went to boardrooms, and the discipline is the same: decide what the reel is arguing before touching the timeline. One producer owns your project from the first conversation through final delivery, and if the honest answer is that you need a shoot rather than an edit, we will say so early rather than halfway through.
Sizzle reel production questions
How much does a sizzle reel cost?
A sizzle cut from footage you already own typically runs $3,000 to $10,000. A sizzle that needs a shoot runs $5,000 to $20,000. Pilot presentations and packages start around $10,000. Paid talent, licensed archive and specialist equipment are quoted separately and itemized up front.
How long should a sizzle reel be?
Two to three minutes for a cold pitch, up to five when the buyer already knows the project. Length is a decision about who is watching and how warm they are, not a default. Anything longer stops being a sales document and becomes a screening.
Can you make a sizzle if I have no footage?
Yes. We shoot the minimum needed to prove the idea rather than producing a pilot before anyone has commissioned one. That usually means a focused day or two on the cast and one or two scenes that demonstrate how the format works.
How long does it take?
Two to four weeks for an edit-only sizzle, depending on how much material there is to log. Four to eight weeks when a shoot is involved. If you are cutting to a market, a pitch meeting or a festival deadline, we schedule backwards from that date.
What is the difference between a sizzle reel and a trailer?
A trailer promotes something that already exists to an audience. A sizzle sells something that does not exist yet to a buyer. That changes the structure completely: a sizzle has to explain the format, not just create appetite for it.
Do you handle music licensing?
Yes, and it matters more here than on most projects. Sizzles get forwarded, posted and screened in rooms, so the track needs to be licensed for that use from the start. We license the music rather than leaving you with a temp track you cannot legally send anywhere.
Will I get different versions?
Usually, and it is cheaper to plan for it than to recut later. A typical delivery is a main pitch cut, a shorter social or teaser cut, and captions. Buyer-specific versions are straightforward once the main cut is locked.
Do you work with brands as well as producers?
Yes. Brand sizzles for sales decks, trade shows and investor rooms are a large part of this work, and agency capability reels too. The craft is identical; only the room it plays in changes.
Can you cut a sizzle for an event while it is still running?
Yes. Fast turnaround recap cuts are a normal request for conferences, launches and festivals, where the value drops sharply after a few days. We staff and plan the post workflow for that up front rather than treating it as a rush.
Who owns the footage?
You do. You receive the finished cuts and, on request, the camera originals and project files. We archive projects so a later version or a follow-up reel can reuse the material.
